"What inspires you?"
When my professor asked me this deceptively simple question, I was stumped. I decided to take finding the answer as a chance for me to look at why I enjoy what I do: my city, Boston, its architecture, and its history. All of these, I realized, come from my father, a civil engineer who has worked in and around Boston his entire career. I decided to interview him about the modern history of the city and transcribe it word for word. I kept each piece of vernacular, pauses and all, because I wanted it to capture what it's really like for my dad and me to talk. I then compiled it with images that I found as well as personal photographs and created an album just like the ones that fill my bookshelves at home.
