Marlborough, MA, 1960 by Samuel Glaser

This polite, round, little building has been greeting visitors to Marlborough on the Southborough border for almost 65 years. It is defined by its white brick and circular design with a facade broken up by full length windows framed by steel beams. It served as one of Metrowest’s outposts for the Registry of Motor Vehicles until the early 2000s when it was closed along with the Framingham branch to save costs. Since then, the site has mostly sat vacant. However, it would have its most famous moment during this time when it played the role of a police station in 2019’s Knives Out. In this role, the building was the scene of a large explosion which left the structure as a burnt out husk. This damage was still mostly visible until very recently when the plywood and overgrowth taking over the site was removed after a citation from the city.
On September 25th, the owners pulled permits for demolition with the intent of using the site to expand their nearby car dealership.
