Wellesley Office Park Building No. 4

Wellesley, MA, 1970, Pietro Belluschi and Jung/Brannen Associates

Built in the late 1960s and early 1970s, the Wellesley Office Park has a uniquely singular vision for most of its buildings. Most of the original buildings share the same palette of exposed steel, orange brick and tiles, and mirrored glass windows and landscape elements such as the hexagonal light fixtures remain consistent between sites. The result is an office park that seems to blend in and out of the New England forest it sits in. The unified vision for the property comes from prolific modern architect Pietro Belluschi and continues by the local firm for the project Jung/Brannen Associates.

Building Number 4 sits at the entrance to the office park and can be seen overlooking the eastern side of the Interstate 95 and route 9 junction. The main facades are made up of bands of reflective glass and exposed steel while the entryway is marked by a monolithic brick form. Originally a kinetic sculpture by Michio Ihara titled “Wind, Wind, Wind” stood outside the entryway but it was moved to Boston in 2011 and now overlooks Congress Street and Faneuil Hall
